It’s been a few days since I posted anything, mainly due to a) traveling and b) being hit with a cold. It was my second cold in a month, and was rather annoying to say the least.
My first cold was straight after my IRONMAN and is something I have learnt to expect and accept. I’m generally pretty healthy but once a big race is over I invariably get sick, seems like my body allows itself some downtime and just gives up the fight- which is fair enough after the high level of stress and exercise I put it through while training and racing full IM distance.
The second cold I didn’t expect and it pissed me off. I was all set to start my new challenge, revved myself up enough to push hard and extend myself further, when sickness curtailed my efforts. However following the old adage of “if it’s above the neck you can still train”, I loaded up on Lemsip and did at least some basic training, logging a decent length bike ride in the wonderful autumn countryside and getting in some short but fast paced runs. Surprisingly fast actually…..
Now it’s the start of a new week, and I’m still a bit sniffy and I will have a lot of travel to do too, so my gut feeling is to basically just try and keep doing what I did last week, and start proper training after I arrive back in Japan in seven days time.
